Give me the works! Five guys is a unique burger restaurant in the sense that you can load your burger with just about anything and everything for one set price. Pick from a large selection of toppings including the normal lettuce, tomatoes and pickles and well as more unique items including jalapeno peppers, A.1. Steak Sauce, green peppers and more! Talk about burger deluxe! The burgers are also cooked on the spot and in an open kitchen, so you don’t have to wonder what’s going on “behind-the-scenes”.  And I know we are talking about burgers, but can I just say fry overload?! These people don’t mess around when it comes to fry portions…they load you up! Four people can easily share a large order.


Smashburger is a newer joint in town, but they’ve left a lasting impression on our hearts. The company was founded in 2007 on the premise of being “every city’s favorite place for burgers.” Well, they’ve succeeded with us, as it is one of our favorites. With freshly smashed and seared burgers using premium beef, their burgers are juicy and flavorful. Especially with their special “smash sauce.” Who knows what’s in that secret recipe of theirs, but whatever it is, it’s delicious. In our minds, Smashburger is a “smashing” success!

With their double drive-thru, it’s a quick option without sacrificing flavor, as all their burgers are made to order and use only the freshest ingredients, which is noticeable in every bite. Checkers and Rally’s doesn’t believe in bagging burgers from under the heat lamps, thank goodness! And let’s be honest, whenever we stop by, we never leave with just a burger. We always seem to order a side of their delicious seasoned fries and a famous banana milkshake. Talk about mmm-mmm good!

Shake shack is our favorite East Coast burger shack. When visiting New York for the first time, we knew leaving without eating at Shake Shack was a sin. So we committed to standing in that long line at Madison Square Park, and boy are we glad we did! Who knew such a great burger joint could stem from a small hot dog cart? Shake Shack burgers melt in your mouth. They are juicy, tender and absolutely delicious thanks to the 100% all-natural Angus beef they use. They have committed themselves to never using hormones or antibiotics in their beef, EVER. It’s all freshly ground and surprising, it’s served plain. No seasoning, just beef. It must be their secret ShackSauce that adds that extreme ka-boom flavor! If you are ever on the East Coast, this place is a MUST!


Lets hop on over to the West Coast now, to In-N-Out Burger! With locations in only five of the fifty states—California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Texas—it’s sometimes a rare treat for us! In-N-Out has grown slower than other burger joints because they do not want to sacrifice quality for quantity. They want to make sure each time you visit an In-N-Out, you get the same great experience! We appreciate this, as we’ve never had a bad experience! We also love In-N-Out for their secret menu and their willingness to accommodate just about anything for their customers! If you want your burger, fries or shake done a particular way, even done in an extremely odd way, order up! They can handle it. However, we tend to stick to the semi-secret menu and order our burger and fries…animal style. That means an extra Thousand Island-like spread, extra pickles, cheese, grilled onions and a mustard grilled burger for the sandwich. And for the fries, all that same goodness topped onto some salty French fries!
