When it comes to investing in new coat hangers, the tried and trusted traditional designs are still the most popular around, with wooden hangers taking pride of place in many a Fashionista’s wardrobe. Clothes designers show a preference for wooden coat hangers over metal ones, and there’s a good reason why this is. Wooden hangers look good, they add a certain style to an organised closet, read on to find out they are worth investing in.
The Pros and Cons of Metal Hangers
Nearly everyone can boast owning a few metal hangers. They’re affordable and every garment you ever take to the cleaners usually comes back on a metal coat hanger. However, they are not the most aesthetically pleasing to the eye and it’s a real chore to get them to hang straight in a wardrobe. On top of this, metal hangers have a habit of bending if you hang anything too heavy on them which means they quickly go out of shape.
More importantly, should the neck of a metal hanger become twisted, it can snag and tear the clothes you hang on it. Then there is the sound of metal as it scrapes across the wardrobe’s metal bar – which is never a very pleasing sound to have to put up with. Although, some metal hangers do come with a hardish type paper on their bar which is supposed to protect clothes that little bit more, they still don’t make the grade. At the end of the day, metal hangers don’t really have much going for them.
The Pros and Cons of Wooden Hangers
When it comes to wooden hangers – they’re a lot more pleasing to the eye. The body of the hanger is much wider and the design is great, being thicker than at the neck. Curved wooden hangers are great for hanging jackets and coats on. Straight ones too are wonderful, because they hang straight in the closet whilst all the while separately clothes in the process – these stylish hangers don’t cross over and get into a mess in the closet either.
There are some designs which are so practical, namely the ones with swivel hooks and if you invest in the “commercial” grade wooden hangers, you know they will last a lifetime simply because they are so well made.
Wooden hangers are coated with a lacquer which means they’re smooth and don’t snag garments and they’re designed to fit all sorts of clothes including suits, coats, dresses as well as many other heavier items guaranteeing they stay in shape. The choice of size hangers is great too. Unlike metal hangers that tend to be all the one size, wooden hangers come in all shapes and sizes, click here for more information.
Wooden hangers come in children’s as well as “petite” sizes, and then there’s men’s and women’s sizes too. For anyone who needs extra-large, there are companies that supply both extra and plus sized hangers. Lastly, when it comes to shape, there’s a wooden coat hanger to suit every type of garment, and the better quality the hanger, the less chance of finding them to have any sharp edges. A good quality hanger should have a “non staining” pad on its clip. The downside about wooden hanger is they are more expensive to buy.
Metal hangers are a more affordable option and every time you take any garments to the cleaners, each item of clothing will normally come back hanging neatly on one. However, when it comes to metal versus wooden, the latter wins hands down. Not only is a closet full of wooden coat hangers so much tidier to look at and keep looking that way, clothes hang so much better on them.
