There are so many fantastic European city break destinations to choose from, ranging from quaint medieval locations which are rich in heritage to large urban sprawls which offer a vast range of landmarks and attraction to the visitor. Many travellers from Europe don’t even realise just how many wonderful cities are within only a couple of hours from their homes, but in the coming years the increasing popularity of the short city break holiday will start to make a difference. Here are five destinations which should be on everyone’s to-do list.
If you were a regular visitor to Europe’s cities, sooner or later only a few would stand out from the rest. Thanks to its lively atmosphere, its beautiful climate and its unique architecture, Barcelona is one of those that will live long in the memory. The capital of Catalonia and Spain’s second largest city deserves to be discovered at the earliest opportunity, so make sure it’s on your radar in the coming months.
If you like to see streets and cars when you visit a city be sure to stay away from Venice! This beautiful Italian city is home to canals and bridges instead, and it provides a visitor experience unlike any other destination. The views of the Grand Canal from the Rialto Bridge are simply stunning, and there is a wonderful sense of heritage that seems to permeate from the very walls of the old buildings.
If you’ve ever thought about visiting Dublin and wondered when would be the best time to go, the truth is that anytime is best. The fun never stops in the capital of the Republic of Ireland, thanks to its lively and enjoyable atmosphere and the friendliness of the locals. One of the most pleasing aspects of paying a visit to the city is that there’s something for everyone to experience.
With a huge collection of historic buildings and iconic landmarks on offer, a few days in London are rarely enough. Attractions like Tower Bridge, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament will all draw the visitors in, of course, but everyone should add the likes of Covent Garden, the Shard and the Natural History Museum to their schedules as well. No wonder so many tourists visit London more than once.
The City of Love is one of the world’s most popular cities, and there are dozens of excellent reasons to pay a visit. If you’re a lover of culture, you should make sure you go to the Louvre, although even a whole day there won’t give you enough time to see everything. For the best view of the whole city, visit the stunning Eiffel Tower and head to the Observation Deck.
