Welcome to Intel Mixx Blog ..
Our ability to communicate with other human beings is what sets us apart from many other animals. We have the ability to make each other laugh, smile or cry. Our entire world is built on social relationships. For thousands of years people have communicated in face to face fashion. They have worked together and fought through tactile communication. The internet, especially social networking websites like Facebook, are changing the way that we communicate with one another. Communication, which until recently had always been done face-to-face, is now done from one person to another via electronic devices. Although many people believe this makes communication easier, many experts believe this is actually causing people to be less social.
Up to Date
With social networking websites such as Facebook, users are able to post statuses about what they’re doing and share pictures and videos of their activities. With free Facebook apps users are able to share where they are, what books or music they’re currently enjoying and where the shop. Therefore, whether you are someone’s best friend or a rarely spoken to acquaintance, you will know everything that they are doing. Since you know everything that they’re doing, you have no need to call them, write them or visit them. All face to face communication is eliminated. In fact, you will be lucky if people even send you an email.
Social skills are also a key part of face to face communication. From a young age, children learn that there a certain things that you can or cannot say to certain people and a certain way that you must treat certain people. When communication online, we often forget these boundaries. Essentially, we are talking to a computer, so it makes sense that we would forget to say our “Yes ma’am” and “No sir” as we would in person. Additionally, we tend to think about what we say before we speak in person. However, online, we often do not think before we communicate with someone else. This can often lead to us saying hurtful things that we may not say in person. Online, if we do say something hurtful, we are able to delete it with a click of a button. In face to face communication, we are unable to take back things that we say. If we are so used to communicating online where we can delete things that we say, we may forget that we cannot do this in face to face communication.
Facebook is a great way for us to stay in touch with friends and loved ones. However, we should still make face to face our primary form of communication. If we live far away from loved ones, letters and phone calls are a great way to communicate. Online communication enriches relationships and communication, but we should not forget to use our social skills to communicate face to face.
