Welcome to Intel Mixx Blog ..
Cycling is an incredibly healthy past time and everyone can benefit from cycling, especially if they cycle daily, by commuting to work on their bicycle. By leaving the car behind or simply escaping public transport, commuters can safely and reliably get to work whilst enjoying the health benefits of doing so.
Commuters very often suffer the crowding of trains or having to cope with rush hour on the roads, leaving them feel angry and frustrated before they have even started work. Cycling is quick, low cost and those benefits are in addition to the health benefits that come with riding a bicycle. There are no restrictions; riders can be free, without restrictions of the traffic or train delays. But how can employers do more to encourage staff to cycle and also provide more for those who already do?
Business owners and managers need to take more responsibility for incentivising staff to cycle to work, encouraging the health benefits of pre and post work exercise. It’s inconvenient going to the gym at 5am before work, so commuting and exercise are taken care of at once by cycling and more businesses should do more to make it as easy as possible for employees to cycle to work. Employers need to offer facilities for cycling staff, which will encourage earlier starts and later finishes as there are no traffic or public transport restrictions or delays. Additionally productivity will rise, as staff won’t have the frantic commute, thus having a better start to the day. Cycling facilities will provide incentives to employees who cycle or want to cycle to work.
It doesn’t matter where the business is based, employers should regard cycling facilities as fundamental to staff incentives.
Every transportation mode has downsides, and of course, bikes are not an exception. Bikes can be stolen or damaged like anything else. We’ve provided some recommendations for bike security, which include tips for business owners, so that they can provide them easily for their employees.
Shelters and sheds
Most businesses offer cycle storage such as cycle shelters, these are shelters where staff can store their bike securely. The shelters will also keep bikes dry and out of the rain. Many businesses even provide showers, as a further incentive to encourage people to cycle and to those who already cycle to work. A lot of businesses encourage car sharing too, however this isn’t for everyone.
We simply cannot stress how useful bike storage is for employees, such facilities are a bonus to choosing you as an employer.
Bicycle Locks and Cycle Lockers
Locking up a bike is essential, businesses can provide staff with cycle lockers which are another great way that employers can provide staff with an incentive to those staff who cycle.
Bikes are efficient when it comes to space, they don’t require a lot of storage area, unlike a car for example. In fact you can fit a lot of bikes in the space even a small car takes up. Bike stands or any other types of cycle storage are incredibly helpful for commuters who cycle to work.
Choosing the right clothing is essential as temperatures change often in Britain and it is particularly important to always dress appropriately depending on the weather. A helmet is also incredibly important. Bikes should also have flashing lights at the front and back, and any fluorescent clothing is a bonus. Employers don’t need to provide any of these, but they can provide information which is incredibly helpful for the safety and wellbeing of their employees.
Cycle To Work Scheme
The Government has introduced a national cycling scheme that encourages the reduction of traffic congestion and also encourages exercise through cycling. Employers can sign up and thus help their employees purchase cycle equipment through their work, by having a small amount deducted from their salary each month to pay for a bike and other accessories. The scheme has partnered with cycle stores across the country with the aim of making cycling more affordable for everyone. Members can get up to 40% off cycling equipment .
Now hopefully you are feeling motivated to cycle regularly and enjoy the benefits or if you are an employer, you are feeling motivated to provide more facilities for your cycling employees.
