A recent piece of research carried out by Rate Supermarket worked out that a two year relationship from first date to marriage cost the average Canadian $43,842.08. This does seem like a lot of money but when you see how they have broken is down in to the cost of different types of dates as well as holiday, engagement ring and party and the wedding, it actually all makes perfect sense.
However, there are ways that you can save money on these things. It can be thinking about how you can be more frugal, especially if you think that you will just not have this sort of money. Not everyone will spend this much money anyway.
These figures are based on average figures and so they do not tell the full story. You can easily spend more money but it is also possible to spend less as well. Not everyone will have a holiday, for example or even spend very much on a wedding. It is a personal choice and partly to do with how frugal you are as well as how much money you have. Some people choose to use credit to pay for things and may use credit cards, store cards or other types of lending. However, some people would rather avoid using this sort of thing and live within their means.
There is nothing wrong with doing either, it is all to do with your personal feelings. It is important to make sure that it is something that you agree with as a partnership though and you will need to make sure that you both have the same views on finances.
If you feel that it is better to spend less on dates, holidays and weddings then you need to be sure that your partner agrees. You can easily fall out over money so you need to tread carefully. Your partner may feel that you are not valuing them enough to want to spend money on them unless you carefully explain your point of view.
There are people that will feel that spending around $22,000 on a wedding is a small price to pay for such an important occasion but others may feel that money would be better spent elsewhere. Some may rather spend it on a deposit for a house, some on a pension fund and others might just rather buy different goods for it. Making sure that you discuss this issue together will mean that you will agree on one of the issues that can be the biggest cause of break up among couples.
It may seem rather boring, to have to talk about money, but unless you understand each other, things could go horribly wrong and you do not want to spend all that money on romance if things do not work out. You may regret the expense and the time that you have wasted and so it is a good idea to get it sorted out first.
It can take time to work out whether you are compatible but discussing the important issues early on, will help you to understand whether you are a good match or not and this will help you know whether it is worth pursuing the relationship or not.
