The slightest improvement in workplace productivity will have a significant impact on your profit and business success. The results of a more efficient team will benefit the company, but will also be beneficial to employees. This list below provides effective and fun ways to improve workplace productivity.
1. Focus On Time Management
Time management is a central part of improving productivity, but that does not mean that you have to crack the whip and ask employees to account for every minute spent on the job. Hold a contest and reward the most productive employees at the end of every week. Ask your human resource department or other managers to devise a way to measure productivity. This is one way to boost efficiency and proper use of time without alienating your employees. Gift cards and other tokens of appreciation should be given to the winners.
2. Sponsor Employee Wellness Programs
People who lead healthy, fit lifestyles are the ones who will be more productive in the workplace. Sponsor local fitness events, like marathons, basketball tournaments, etc, and encourage your employees to participate. You can also invest in a workplace gym or sponsor membership at a local gym. Healthy employees are more productivity during the workday and are less likely to take sick leave.
3. Promote Team-Building Efforts
Encourage an atmosphere for team building within the organization. Recognize and encourage employees’ contributions to processes and company development. When employees are recognized for their contributions and feel valued they’ll continue to put their best effort into the work they do. They will be inspired to come to work every day, knowing that they are making a difference. Take time out, once or twice a year, for retreats where employees can participate in team building exercises to boost morale and improve processes. When employees are in sync with each other and work together for a common goal the company will recognize an increase in productivity.
4. Expand Job Descriptions
If you have employees that have talents outside of their current job descriptions, you can utilize them in other areas as well. Ask the employee how he feels about helping out in another department, instead of demanding it. These tasks will help to change the daily monotony and boost productivity. If the employee seems more productive in this new area you might consider moving the employee to the new department.
5. Get Organized
Finally, organization plays an important role in your employees’ productivity. Start by setting clear goals and outcomes for every employee. Encourage clutter free desks and walkways. Revisit the layout of the office to make sure that employees can move smoothly from one task to another. Ask employees to plan out their workflow for the following day as one of the last things they do before leaving the office. A planned workflow and tidy desk makes it easy to get started when they return to work.
