Fuel prices in recent years have increased exponentially. Long gone are the days when people used to take long, joyful rides. Yesterday’s top question “What’s the horsepower of this car?” has been replaced with “What’s the fuel mileage of this car?” When buying a new or used car, most customers are concerned about the mileage of the car.
Keeping in mind of this trend, there are many new, emerging hacks which claim to increase your car’s mileage, but the effectiveness of these hacks still remain dubious. Some of these hacks can even hurt your engine, creating a dent in your pocket. So if you want to increase your fuel economy without any hacks, then read on.
1 Be gentle on the acceleration and breaks: Rapid acceleration and hard breaks leave plenty of unburned fuel in the system and put excessive strain on the engine. So always avoid this practice.
2 Keep your car tuned: Car maintenance should be perfumed at regular intervals as prescribed by the manufacturer of your car. This should also include changing the engine oil, oil filter, air filter, and spark plugs. Remember, you can save thousands of dollars by keeping your car tuned and enjoy the performance of your well-tuned car.
3 Maintain proper tire pressure: Car owners most often than not tend to neglect the air pressure in tires, the cheapest component to maintain in a car. To have better fuel economy, you should always keep the air pressure as prescribed by your car manufacturer; this will not only give you better mileage but will also reduce the wear and tear of tires and car suspension parts.
4 Keep it light: Remember, anything which puts weight on your car will have a direct effect on the amount of fuel required by your car to run. Therefore, a good rule of thumb to save fuel is to keep it light. Remove non-essential items from your trunk and get rid of items you don’t need from the cabin area. The fewer the items, the more mileage your vehicle will give you.
5 Take it easy on the electronics: All electronic items that you run in your car take energy from the alternator, which is powered by the car engine; so if you are running a large number of lights or an extremely heavy sound system, then your fuel mileage will radically be reduced as the engine will need to run faster to accommodate all the power requirements.
Furthermore, the concept of car pooling or car sharing can help you save fuel and have a positive effect on the environment.
